Nobody Sees a Flower

Seeing a city, seeing a person for who they are, seeing art, seeing what you really want. These things aren’t immediate.

Artists aim to see. But it’s a process. And we want to help others see, too. But it’s a lot of layers to work through, and it doesn’t always come out sounding the way it did in your dream. Sometimes you think you have it down, but then you spend enough time with something like a flower and you realize you really never saw flowers at all before. So we go in circles.

Georgia O’Keeffe is someone who really knew how to see down to the core in a way I hope I can one day. I spend a lot of time stuck half awake in the middle, trying not to block my own view.

It’s hard to start and hard to stop. But when you finally see it… you know.

Looking and seeing are two different things.
